Paris is so famous that often the rest of the country is completely forgotten, and that’s just not right in my French mind. So here is my Top 10 of the most beautiful cities in France (with a few villages here and there). It was not easy to choose only 10, but in the end these are the places I would recommend to someone visiting France for the first time!
Now repeat after me : “un verre de vin, s’il-vous-plait”.
It’s easy to feel how close Germany is in this french town in between two cultures. The old town is beautiful and full of life, and also worth visiting in winter for its Christmas market!
On the coast of Brittany, Saint-Malo is a big town but where it’s still possible to live a quiet life. Plenty of trails and activities to do around the town!
This village in the Vaucluse region is a classical medieval town that was very well preserved. It’s one of the few official “most beautiful villages in France”!
Nantes is a very modern city. It’s young, clean, full of life and growing fast. The famous rings of light make Nantes’ nights unforgettable!
If this Alsatian village looks familiar, it’s because it was used as the basis for the design of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast! It is real.
Tours is a typical town of the Centre region, situated right in the middle of the Loire Valley. The old town around Place Plumereau is worth visiting!
Nice is a beautiful city by the sea. Although it’s so popular with tourists that it might be a better idea to visit it off season!
Sixt-fer-à-cheval is a village made of 24 separate hamlets. It’s often recognized as THE most beautiful village in France!
9. LA ROCHELLE
La Rochelle is famous for its defensive walls and its coast on the Atlantic. It’s a town that draws more and more tourists each year!
I might be a bit biased on this one, but the truth is that Clermont-Ferrand is a beautiful city, made with volcanic rocks and surrounded by impressive volcanoes. There’s also many many hiking and other activities available in the area!
